Third whale rescued after mass stranding

Another sperm whale trapped in shallow water on Tasmania’s west coast has been rescued.
The whale was one of a pod that became stranded in Macquarie Harbour on Wednesday.
Five have died, two were rescued yesterday and one was escorted into deeper water this morning.

Senior Parks and Wildlife ranger Chris Arthur says wildlife authorities are working in hot temperatures to free the remaining four whales.

“We will be gently moving animals off the sandbanks into deeper water and then exercising those animals and then what we hope to achieve today is the release of the healthier of the animals that have survived,” he said.’
