Cattle and buffalo epidemic in China – 05/28/2004

    Imphal, May 27: Following the outbreak of a strange epidemic among
    the cattles in Lenglong village under Tamei sub Division in
    Tamenglong dist, the State Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department
    has taken up all necessary measures to combat the the epidemic.

    The Department yesterday intimated its Joint Director sitting at
    Tamenglong dist HQ to immediately send a team at the affected area
    and conduct a spot study, Deputy Director Vety (Epidemic) told The
    Sangai Express today.

    It also asked the officer to report about the number of deaths, mode
    of spread of the disease and also to deposit the blood slides taken
    from the affected livestock at the Imphal head office.

    “We in the epidemic section are ready to do anything to combat the
    epidemic as and when we receive the report from Tamenglong” the
    Deputy Director added.

    Mention may be made here that on May 24, the village authority of
    Rianglong (Lenglong) had informed the press that a strange epidemic
    had broken out amongst the cattle especially buffaloes in the village.

    The village authority had also appealed to the State Vety Department
    for sending Vety doctors and required medicines at the earliest
    possible time to eradicate the epidemic before the unknown disease
    starts attacking human lives.
